Under cold rain the bier lowers to grave
In life was never seen a man so brave
Unto death he rode with no fear or regret
To his sacrifice we are forever in debt
He had an ideal to which all could aspire
But to kiss an ideal satisfies no desire
A lover lives only to be at his mate’s side
A hero gives his life so that all may thrive
To have known a hero gives me great pride
But I’d rather have a lover if I could decide
Yet for duty’s sake my love lies in eternal rest
If I had a wish I would undo his last quest
As the rain falls I realize what fools men be
What do they fight for, when all ends in defeat?

Another poem. I originally wrote this as the second part of "A Toast."

As before, feedback will be appreciated...

WOW. I love this piece, it is so questioning and true. Fantastic.

Thanks.

Yeah... us guys tend to do some pretty stupid stuff, from a pragmatic point of view. Sometimes I think we need to ask ourselves... is a cause really worth giving up everything for?

Courage is just another form of foolhardiness... but without it, the world would be a far darker place.

Or it could be brighter as anger management would be a good way to have prevented some war...

People can be idealistic to a fault, that much is for certain; and, that fault can be enormous.

In my opinion, men have a greater tendency to be idealistic to a fault than women. What would you say?

I would agree. Women are more realistic.

Hmm...

On another point, sentimentality can catch the best of anybody. No avoiding that, I guess...

Nope unless you become completely numb and lose all feeling both good and bad.

Hmm...

We don't want to be robots, do we?
